Mina Trans-Mat System

Main Page

The Trans-Mat system the Mina have built allows for global matter transportation. The Trans-Mat uses a station-to-station system, like the Grand Trans-Mat. It uses the planets magnetic field as a conduit, instead of using it to create a sub-space wave guide to a remote planet the matter stream is shunted into a magnetic line of force where it circles that planet several times a second until the line of force and the receiving station are close enough to allow the matter stream to jump to the receiving station.

The system is not fool-proof. There are procedures in the operator manual for “Failed Reintegration” which call for the matter to be dematerialized and streamed out into space where it can dissipate. Although these sorts of accidents are rare, they can happen. Another problem can be “Cross Station Jumps” which are when two stations initiate a transport very close together bound for stations in close proximity. The matter streams can arrive at the wrong stations, although usually intact.

The Trans-Mat system consists of a platform about ten meters across with a ramp on both sides. This allows a vehicle to be driven onto the platform, sent to another station, and then drive off the other side of the platform at the destination. The control panel is located to one side on an elevated platform. The platform has four pillars as opposed to the multiple pillars of the GTM and is not domed over. Most of the Trans-Mat stations are in the open, but several have a canopy over the control panel. The Trans-Mat system doesn’t have integrated communications like the GTM
